1. Who we are
Sanjog Darpan is a matrimonial platform operated by Sanjog Darpan from Delhi, India. Contact for privacy matters: info@sanjogdarpan.com, +91 92050 54850. Our grievance officer is listed on the grievance page.
2. What we collect
- Account data: name of the account holder, email address, mobile number, password (stored only as a one-way hash), language, time zone.
- Profile data you provide: name, gender, date of birth, marital status, height, location, education, profession, employer, income band, lifestyle, family details, partner preferences, an introduction, photos and, optionally, religion, community, mother tongue, horoscope details and identity documents. Religion, community and horoscope information are provided only if you choose to add them.
- Activity data: interests sent and received, shortlists, notes, searches, profile visits, messages, reports, support requests, consent records.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, session identifiers, timestamps, error logs.
We do not collect payment information because the service is free. We do not use cookies for advertising.
3. Why we use it (purposes and legal basis)
- To create and operate your matrimonial profile and show it to other registered members according to your privacy settings (performance of the service you asked for).
- To moderate profiles, photos and messages for safety and to investigate reports (legitimate interest in a safe service; legal obligations).
- To send transactional notifications: verification codes, interest and message alerts, moderation decisions, security alerts (performance of the service). Optional tips and announcements are sent only with your consent, which you can withdraw in Account → Notification settings.
- To respond to support requests and grievances.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with Indian law.
We do not sell personal data, do not use it for third-party advertising and do not make automated decisions with legal effect about you. Match suggestions are ordered by transparent rules based on your stated preferences and interests.
4. Who can see your information
- Other members: your profile as limited by your privacy settings. Your exact date of birth, email, phone number and documents are never shown; contact details, private photos and horoscope details are shared only when you grant a request, and you can revoke that at any time.
- Public visitors: nothing, unless you switch on the optional public listing card (first name, age, city, profession, no photo).
- Our staff: only what their role needs: moderators see profiles and reports; support sees tickets; relationship managers see only cases assigned to them with your consent. Staff cannot log in as you. Access is logged.
- Service providers: web hosting and email delivery (Hostinger International Ltd.), SMS delivery for verification codes, all under contract and only to provide the service.
- Authorities: when required by law, court order or to protect members' safety.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile is hidden immediately and your data is erased after a 30-day recovery period, including photos, messages on both sides, interests and preferences.
- Records we must keep for safety or legal reasons (for example a report you were the subject of, or an audit entry) are kept in anonymised form for up to one year after deletion.
- Verification codes expire within minutes; session records are removed when they expire; server logs are kept for 90 days.
- Backups containing your data are overwritten within 90 days of deletion.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and correct your data: everything you entered is editable under Account → My profile.
- Download a copy: Account → Data & privacy → Download my data (ZIP with JSON files and your photos).
- Delete your account: Account → Data & privacy → Delete account, or write to us.
- Withdraw consent: change privacy settings, revoke shares, switch off marketing emails, or withdraw from matchmaking assistance at any time.
- Manage a profile for a relative only with their consent; they can take over the account at any time through the transfer-of-control link.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you are unable to (write to us).
- Complain: contact the grievance officer; you may also approach the Data Protection Board of India once it is constituted under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
7. Children
The service is only for adults who are legally eligible to marry. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and we reject dates of birth below the eligibility age at registration.
8. Security
Passwords are hashed with argon2id, sessions are protected by secure cookies, private photos are stored outside the web server root and delivered only through expiring, member-bound links, staff use two-step verification, and all traffic uses HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure; report any concern to info@sanjogdarpan.com.
9. Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie and a language cookie. See the cookie page.
10. Changes
If we change this policy materially we will show it to you at your next login and ask you to accept it. Earlier versions are available on request.
